Word of Faith Controversy!

I did a search on “Word of Faith" in a popular Christian forum to find out what it was and why people are so venomously against it.

After all, I believe and have faith in the Word. Sounds completely logical on the surface. So what could be so wrong with it?

I have done a lot of reading in the forums and this seems to be some key points to the Word of Faith movement even though I haven’t found an official position. This is some of the tenets to their beliefs that I have concluded so far:

1 WOF believes it is not God’s will for people to be sick.

2 WOF believe that if they can find a scripture to “confess” then that is the scripture they stand on.

3 WOF believes that if a person isn’t healed it is because of not enough faith.

Hardly any of the posts I have read have stated anything about living a repented, holy lifestyle.

A sinful person who does not have a relationship with Jesus (Matt 7:23) can quote the Word all they want and get no results. Satan quoted scripture to Jesus in Matthew 4. Did Jesus obey Satan simply cause he quoted the Word?

The main focus I have seen in these WOF posts is Faith and NOT a repented lifestyle. One who has faith would be one that believes the Word of God. That would include a righteous walk of repentance and obedience (Heb 12:14, 3 john 1:11; 2peter 3:11; 2 cor 6:17; 1 thes 4:7). Show me your faith by living a repented holy lifestyle (James 2:18)!

Even demons believe God! Demons can possibly quote scripture too. However their fate is hell.

Here are a few scriptures for you. I submit these humbly with fear, because I don’t have this figured out yet. But I need to at least address the holiness issue of getting prayers answered regarding healing.

Here are some scriptures tying sin and sickness together:

Exo 15:26 and he said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of Jehovah thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his eyes, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of the diseases upon thee, which I have put upon the Egyptians: for I am Jehovah that healeth thee.

From Ex 15:26 does it not say God puts diseases on people who disobey Him?

1Co 11:29-30 For he that eateth and drinketh, eateth and drinketh judgment unto himself, if he discern not the body. (30) For this cause many among you are weak and sickly, and not a few sleep.

Does this verse not correlate hypocrisy with sickness?

Joh 5:13-14 But the one who had been healed did not know who it was, for Jesus had slipped away from the crowd in that place. (14) Later on, Jesus found him in the temple and told him, "See, you have become well. Stop sinning or something worse may happen to you."

Does Jesus not equate sin with sickness here?

Num 12:12-14 Let her not, I pray, be as one dead, of whom the flesh is half consumed when he cometh out of his mother's womb. (13) And Moses cried unto Jehovah, saying, Heal her, O God, I beseech thee. (14) And Jehovah said unto Moses, If her father had but spit in her face, should she not be ashamed seven days? let her be shut up without the camp seven days, and after that she shall be brought in again.

Did God not Punish Miriam with leprosy for seven days?

I believe in quoting the Word! I am not a rabid anti WOF person at all. I just don’t understand the whole vicious attack of it yet. I am still in the investigative stages. I have noticed a severe lack of a holy lifestyle accompanying quoting the Word of God as one of the WOF arguments. Repentance is a very big deal with God! However it is all but left out in the WOF arguments that I have read so far.

Saying (quoting) and doing are two very different things!

Mat 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

This may not be popular and may offend many, but it is the Bible and I am not trying to win friends but save souls from hell!

Yeah, I did this study CUZ I AM SICK! LOL, but It caused me to get on my knees and seek God! I am also repenting for some of the stupid sins God has been dealing with me about for a while.

Don't forsake the chastising of the Lord or we are bastards!

Heb 12:5-8 and ye have forgotten the exhortation which reasoneth with you as with sons, My son, regard not lightly the chastening of the Lord, Nor faint when thou art reproved of him; (6) For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, And scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. (7) It is for chastening that ye endure; God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is there whom his father chasteneth not? (8) But if ye are without chastening, whereof all have been made partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.

Statue of Liberty Dream!

This is a dream I had April 12-13th 2009.

I dreamed that the Stature of Liberty’s head fell off into the ocean onto the ocean floor beneath. It looked like it was purposely decapitated. I had a team of probably around twelve scuba divers who blew up large, very thick, rubber balloons and then tied them to the head in order to raise it up. The balloons were tied to large iron staples that were placed onto the outer perimeter of the head. We managed to get the head to the surface of the ocean. The effort was clumsy yet successful. I remember it being a real effort to keep the scuba divers breathing and working together in concert. I then woke up.

This may seem straightforward, but I am welcoming interpretations.

Riches to Rags!

In my daily bible reading I received a simple yet important revelation from reading the following verse:

2Co 8:9 For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might become rich.

I was pondering the majesty and riches that Jesus left for my sake. He didn’t have to, but He did. He trapped himself in the human experience, which I suppose would be like coming to work in a sewage treatment plant compared to living in the luxury of the most elegant castle ever. I am sure that even fails miserably in comparison, but you get my point.

Then I realized that if we love the lost as Jesus loved us, then we should not hold worldly riches in such high esteem. I think that people are missing the main thing, which is relationship with Jesus and loving our neighbor. How can we do that if we are constantly trying to attain worldly riches? Sadly the way of the world is to get as many toys and property as we can before we die. This is contrary to Christ’s teachings.

One could make the argument that the ability to get wealth is for the sake of the gospel according to Deuteronomy 8:18. Yes, I believe wealth is for the gospel as well, but is that really everyone’s primary motivation? I think not! Plus if it is God’s will for us to make a bunch of money, then why didn’t Jesus and the apostles do it? Why did Jesus leave carpentry? Why did the apostles leave absolutely everything to follow Jesus (Matt 19:27)?

I leave you to ponder my revelation with a couple more verses to chew on:

Luk 14:33 So therefore whosoever he be of you that renounceth not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple.

Mat 19:29 And every one that hath left houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, shall receive a hundredfold, and shall inherit eternal life.
