A dream on ethics?
Before I fell asleep last night I was contemplating long and hard about whether a Christian should ever impose their ethics upon unbelievers. I went to sleep with the matter unresolved.
Here is the dream:
I was sitting next to Dusty Kemp the pastor of New Life Church in Houston Texas. We were inside a very large building in a banquet type setting. Pastor Kemp and I were on the banquet table farthest from the main area with our backs toward a window, which looks outside. I would turn my head from time to time to see what was going on outside.
Once when I looked outside I saw an elderly lady fall and wondered if any one would help her. I looked back and she was gone. I looked outside again and saw another older lady fall and wondered again if anyone would help her. Each time Pastor Kemp didn’t bother to look outside but maintained his gaze overlooking the people inside the room. Finally I looked a third time and a famous actor (I forget who) was stumbling drunk and I got up and immediately ran outside to help him. As I was leaving, I heard Dusty ask people where I was going and they told him I was going outside.
I helped this actor person up and he wanted to go to a restaurant to see his family. As I helped him stumble along, he immediately turned into a girl I used to know that had a very bad drinking problem. She insisted that I take her into the church with me. I refused regretting what I had done.
End of dream.
I went to sleep pondering on points of the church forcing its morality on those of unbelievers. I am thinking that this dream is telling me that the church should primarily be concerned on matters within when it comes to ethics. What would be the point on imposing ethics on unbelievers?
However interpretations are welcome!
